Learn How You Can Help Prevent Type 2 Diabetes
Did you know that more than 29.1 million Americans have diabetes, and one out of four does not know that they have it? Or that if you are at increased risk for developing prediabetes and type 2 diabetes if you are over 45 years of age, are overweight, have a family history of type 2 diabetes?
If you or someone you love has any of these risk factors, Cecil County Health Department has a program to aid you in preventing type 2 diabetes.
Prevent T2 is a year-long program that meets virtually for one hour weekly for the first four months, every other week for the next two months, and monthly for the last six months. This program helps participants achieve moderate weight loss by eating well and being active. By the end of the first six months, the goal is for participants to lose at least 5 to 7 percent of their starting weight and get at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week. Participants then set goals for themselves for the second half of the program, many choosing to continue losing weight and increase their physical activity.
