What tobacco cessation services are available?

The Cecil County Health Department works with community partners to offer tobacco cessation services to help Cecil County residents quit using tobacco. Services include a brief one-to-one single-session consultation, multi-session supportive classes, and funding support to access tobacco cessation medication aids.

What Consultation/Classes Are Available?

The Lotus Center is partnering with the Cecil County Health Department to help you permanently quit tobacco use.  For an appointment contact, The Lotus Center staff for your consultation to determine how to support your quit best.  

Lotus offers free classes based on the Breaking the Habit in Behavioral Health (BH2) Curriculum developed by the MDQuit Resource Center, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). The program includes information on the following topics: stress management, triggers, setting a quit date, withdrawal, maintenance support, and relapse prevention. Using staff expertise, The Lotus Center can offer additional support through mindfulness and breathing techniques, developing plans for healthy food options, and exercise activities that can improve your health and coping strategies.  Classes can be offered in-person or virtually based on your needs.

Tobacco Cessation Aids

The Nicotine Replacement and Non-Nicotine Therapy Voucher Program can help pay for tobacco cessation aids by providing up to three vouchers for a combination of the following cessation aids:  Nicotine Gum (200 pieces), Nicotine Transdermal Patch (28-day supply), Nicotine Lozenges (1-6 weeks /1 to 2 pieces every 2 hrs) or Chantix™ (varenicline) (28-day supply) and/or Zyban (bupropion) (2 a day-7-12 week supply) as long as grant funding last. The process is simple, send your prescription to one of the participating pharmacies, then pick up your cessation medication at that pharmacy.

All residents who want to quit smoking are encouraged to contact the Maryland Tobacco Quitline 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669). The Quitline offers FREE 24/7 phone and text message support to help you quit tobacco use and access additional cessation aids via mail.

Who is eligible for the program?

Cecil County residents eighteen or older are eligible for tobacco cessation consultation and classes.

Cecil County residents who are age 18 or older and need help with tobacco cessation aid payment can access the Nicotine Replacement and Non-Nicotine Therapy Voucher Program with a prescription from a provider. Participating pharmacies determine eligibility for the voucher program.

The Nicotine Replacement and Non-Nicotine Therapy Voucher Program can be accessed without an appointment, Monday – Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., by sending your prescription to one of the participating pharmacies below.
