KI Distribution for Residents of Conowingo, Colora, Rising Sun, and northern Port Deposit

Cecil County residents who live in Conowingo, Colora, Rising Sun, and northern Port Deposit within the 10-mile radius of the Peach Bottom Nuclear Generating Station can obtain Potassium Iodide (KI) tablets at the West Cecil Health Center on Mar. 29 from 3 to 6:30 p.m.

KI tablets protect against radiation injury by blocking radioactive iodine from being absorbed by the thyroid gland, which is the part of the body most sensitive to radioactive iodine. People should take KI only on the advice of the Cecil County Health Officer.

If you currently have KI tablets that have expired, please bring those to the distribution event on Mar. 29 for disposal.

Cecil County works with neighboring counties in Maryland and Pennsylvania, state and federal authorities, multiple agencies, and Constellation Energy (formerly known as Exelon) to plan and prepare for possible radiological release emergencies – including evacuating or sheltering in place.

CCHD will dispense KI tablets at West Cecil Health Center, 49 Rock Springs Rd, Conowingo, MD 21918. For more information about KI tablets, call the Health Department’s Emergency Preparedness office at 410-996-5113. The Peach Bottom Area Emergency Planning Brochure is found at www.cecilcountyhealth.org under Emergency Preparedness.
